One Sketch Two Cards with Homemade Sweetness and Animal Expedition

If you’ve ever sat in your craft room wanting to make something but had no idea where to start, you’re not alone. I’ve been there more times than I can count.

When that happens, I reach for a card sketch.

Sketches are one of my favourite creative tools because they take away the “where do I start?” feeling and replace it with a simple plan. From there, you can copy it exactly or change things up and make it your own.

For this week’s Sketch Night on YouTube, we used one simple sketch and created two completely different cards.

One card uses the brand new Homemade Sweetness Suite, and the other digs way back into my stash with the retired Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper. Same sketch. Totally different look.

And that’s the magic of sketches. 🩷

Card 1 – Homemade Sweetness

This card uses the adorable Filled With Sweetness bundle and coordinating Designer Series Paper.

I couldn’t resist the gingham pattern paired with the sweet little jars and honey bear. The layered jars tucked behind the sentiment create such a fun focal point, and those Strawberry Slush dots finish it off perfectly.

Card 2 – Animal Expedition

For the second card, I dug deep into my stash and found one of my favourite retired Designer Series Papers from years ago — Animal Expedition.

This bright, playful paper pairs perfectly with the cute crocodiles. I love how the two images stretch across the circle, and the Lemon Lime Twist sentiment adds a cheerful pop of colour.

A Little Extra Inspiration

Before the live, I also created three additional cards using the same sketch. It’s amazing how different each card can look just by changing the paper, stamps, or embellishments. If you want to take a look at these additional cards I shared them at the 3:32 mark in the live video. Watch it here!

That’s why I love sketches so much. Once you have the layout, you can keep using it over and over with whatever supplies you have in your stash.

Try This Sketch Yourself

If you’re feeling a little stuck creatively, grab the sketch PDF and give it a try. Pull out some papers you haven’t used in a while, mix and match patterns, and see where it takes you.

You might be surprised how quickly a card comes together.

And if you do make a card using the sketch, I’d love to see it! Leave me a comment and tell me which card you like best — the sweet jam jars or the playful crocodiles.

Happy crafting, friends.
